Sweeney told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 it happened Saturday night after he had just finished a show at Giggles Comedy Club in Saugus.

WBZ-TV's Kate Merrill reports

"I was sitting at a table with five women, one of whom I did not know," he said.

"I noticed there was something going wrong with her so I said 'If I said something wrong I apologize,' but I said nothing derogatory towards her. I barely noticed her."

"We were all joking at the table. All of us were making jokes and all of the women at this table will corroborate that and out of nowhere, this woman assaulted me with a glass, threw a glass at me," Sweeney told WBZ.

"I get the bartender and he tries to throw her out and then she broke the finger of the owner and she threw glasses at other people."

Police arrested 24-year-old Erica Porzio of Revere who claims she was offended by Sweeney's routine.

She's charged with assaulting him and the club's owner.

Police say Porzio admitted she was drunk.
