WESTFIELD (CBS) – Westfield police have caught the person who allegedly killed a duck at Stanley Park last week, according to CBS 3 Springfield.

“Ozzie” the Muscovy Duck was stomped to death by a group of teenagers last Friday afternoon, according to the park.

The resident duck was popular at the park.

“Ozzie came to Stanley Park a few years ago and has been a special member of our duck, geese & swan family ever since,” said Bob McKean, managing director, on the park’s website.

This story made me cry. So, what now for this teenager? We live in a decaying society, and the violence seems to be beginning at a younger and younger age. This boy needs to be severely punished for what he’s done. He’s probably only sorry he got caught.

  3. Denise says:

I would love to hear the excuse as to why the big bad boy – felt so threatened by the little people friendly duck – that he needed to kill it. His family must be proud! But I’m sure we’ll never see the faces of these cowards and animal abusers. Watch them as they get older – ya never know how the real sicko’s get started as kids!

  4. thor's hammer says:

we have a right to know who this is. the good people of westfield need to be able to be proactive in protecting themselves for a lowlife who would kill an innocent creature. i wouldn’t want my son/daughter/niece/nephew bring such an individual into my home or associate with them socially. they also have no place on a town/school sponsored athletic team/activity. they have demonstrated what they are capable of, and unless true justice and punishment is dispensed quickly, there really is no good to come. justice for ozzy, and all creatures great and small. save your tears punk, we’re not buying.

WESTFIELD – Stanley Park officials Tuesday praised the quick work of the Police Department as well as the public assistance received in identifying the person responsible for Friday’s killing of the park’s beloved Muscovy duck named Ozzie.

“We can now put this to rest but we can never forget Ozzy,” said Park director Robert C. McKean. “We are absolutely pleased by the work of the police and those who assisted in the investigation,” he said.

Police Tuesday arrested a 15-year-old boy and charged him with cruelty to animals and killing a domesticated animal, Capt. Hipoloto Nunez said. The boy, who resides in Westfield, will answer the charges in Holyoke Juvenile Court, he said.

community service is far too good for this punk. OH NO , He should have nothing given to him that easy.. What will you have him do sweep, rake, mow , wash something, plant stuff,. what would that even teach this criminal. WHAT. No this killer needs far more of a rough sentence. something that will teach killing is never good, something that teaches him life is precious. Show this kid what life is like take him to a pound, take him to a morgue, Yeah that’s gruesome, But hey show him what happens to people. Sorry this kid just does not deserve to be treated as if its no big deal ,,, Harsh and severe punishment,,
NO COMMUNITY service that is easy,,, make his punishment last 6 months and make it harsh,

    1. tsalt says:

yes it should be harsh. In addition to other good ideas, I like gramps idea of no license but I’d say until 21 and time spent cleaning a chicken coop.

Isn’t there a law that protects juveniles from having their names released? And I thought the original report said juveniles plural yet this seems to say only one was arrested.

  6. emom says:

Honestly , What can a teenager learn from cleaning the chicken coop, sure it stinks, its messy and its a lot of work, but after its over they go home and smile and say,, “Huh what did that teach me” truly a far better punishment can be given to drive home the severity of such a crime. We need to make them realize killing is a serious crime, not just a sport oer pass time. If we just place these kids in farms to clear barns and stuff it does not teach them anything. Harsh punishment and a huge dose of reality.
And I think they are going after the one that did the crime, I have a feeling his friends has turned him in which was the right thing to do.. Those kids too need to pay for their crimes. Putting them back in and around animals to clean their pens will only give them the opportunity to repeat the same crime again.
No a far harsher crime is needed for these wayward teens. something far worse,, Like cleaning a morgue or maybe where they take animals that have passed, They like death, killing maybe seeing it first hand on both levels will shock them into reality. HARSH YOU BET. if it does not reform them nothing will

  7. Marc says:

To anyone who says “You care more about a duck than about people!”. Yes, in this case the duck’s life has more value than these creep’s do. The duck appears to have done more to make people happy than these kids ever did.

  8. Ronwie says:

I cannot understand why the police and the courts feel the need to keep private this creep’s identity. , I say publish the name and let the community at large subject him and his family to the ridicule and scorn they so richly deserve.
