Sveum To Get Second Interview From Red Sox

BOSTON (CBS) – Dale Sveum is one of two finalists for the Red Sox managerial opening, and will interview with the team again this week, WBZ-TV has confirmed.

Sveum will meet with the Red Sox brass in Milwaukee on Tuesday, site of the general managers' meetings. One other candidate will also receive a second interview.

It appears as though Sveum has emerged as the favorite to land the Red Sox job, left vacant from the departure of Terry Francona after a historic September collapse. The invite to Milwaukee indicates strong feelings from Sox GM Ben Cherington that Sveum is his top choice for the job.

Sveum served as third base coach for the Red Sox from 2004-05. He has been with the Brewers since 2006, filling many roles on the club including interim manager in 2008. He is currently the team's hitting coach.

Sveum also interviewed with former Red Sox GM Theo Epstein for the Chicago Cubs managerial opening.
