BOSTON (CBS) – A Gloucester man has been charged with stealing cash from a flight attendant’s purse during an overseas trip.
State police say Torry Johnson was returning to Boston from Keflavik, Iceland Sunday and while the Iceland Air flight was somewhere over Greenland, he stole approximately $300 from the purse of a flight attendant, as well as a small, undetermined amount of foreign currency.
“When confronted by the flight crew, Mr. Johnson returned the foreign currency, but subsequently locked himself in the plane’s lavatory and is believed to have flushed the US currency still in his possession,” state police said in a statement Monday.
Ground crews at Logan Airport retrieved the missing cash from the flight’s storage tanks.
Johnson was arrested. He will be arraigned Monday in East Boston District Court.
He’s charged with larceny over $250.
