Customer Helps Stop Robbery In Manchester, N.H

MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) - A robber in Manchester was stopped first by a customer and then by security cameras at MS Market. The video led police right to him.

It's tough to see in the video, but the suspect was armed with a knife when he lunged at the register and started taking cash.

Another customer was back in the cigarette room when he saw all the commotion. He came rushing out to try to stop the robbery.

WBZ-TV's Lauren Leamanczyk reports

Other customers say they're glad and they would've done the same.

The customer who hit the man is a regular who also helps out at the store. Police say what he did may have been brave, but it's not recommended.

"Typically in a convenience store robbery it's a just a small amount of cash that is taken," says Detective Stacy Howe. "It's not worth the risk of getting injured or possibly getting killed by the suspect."

Thanks to the clear surveillance video and community help, the suspect was arrested Monday morning, just a day and half after the robbery. He told police he is out of work and needed cash.

And he almost did it again this morning, but he backed out.
