BOSTON (CBS) – New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady grew up idolizing Joe Montana.

Now he is passing him in the record books.

Brady threw for 329 yards against the Jets Sunday night, giving him his 40th career 300-yard game. The Patriots quarterback now owns sole possession of eight place on the All-Time list for 300-yard games, breaking his tie with Montana.

Next up on the list is Warren Moon, who has 49 career 300-yard games. Peyton Manning and Dan Marino are tied for the most with 63.

Sunday was Brady’s sixth 300-yard game of the season. He is two shy of his personal best of eight set during the 2007 season.

The Patriots quarterback hit a couple more milestones in Sunday night’s 37-16 win. He surpassed the 3,000 yard mark for the season, making him only the second player to reach that mark through a team’s first nine games. The Saints Drew Brees surpassed the mark earlier in the day.

Brady and head coach Bill Belichick are also now the all-time winningest coach-quarterback tandem in NFL history. Sunday was their 117th victory together, surpassing Hall of Famers Dan Marino and Don Shula.
