Katie Brienzo and Ellery Reynolds
FAIRHAVEN (CBS) – A driver has surrendered to police after she hit a couple in a crosswalk, killing a woman.
29-year-old Katie Brienzo and her boyfriend, 38-year-old Ellery Reynolds, were crossing Sconticut Neck Road at about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday when they were hit, right in front of her family. They were heading to Brienzo’s sister’s house before the accident.
Brienzo was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she died.
Reynolds is now in fair condition at a hospital in Boston.
The driver, 35-year old Renee Andrews of Fairhaven, turned herself into police.
She will be summonsed to court where she will be charged with motor vehicle homicide and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
“Katie was very special, very full of life, she enjoyed life. She’s going to be very missed,” her brother-in-law John Fitzgerald told WBZ-TV Wednesday.
“It’s just sad, just really, really sad. It’s going to touch a lot of people, because she did,” Brienzo’s friend Michelle Hartley said.
WBZ-TV’s Alana Gomez reports
Neighbors say the street is notorious for speeding and more should be done to protect pedestrians.
“There should be a policeman here to park somewhere and see these zoomers go by like they do,” resident Beverly Rock said.
