No Bail For Middleboro Man Charged In Street Brawl Stabbing Death

MIDDLEBORO (CBS) – A Middleboro man was ordered held without bail Monday on second-degree murder charges after a street brawl over the weekend.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Karen Twomey reports

26-year-old Nicholas Pilalas is charged with killing 20-year-old Dalton Goulart of Middleboro early Sunday morning.

Witnesses told police Pilalas got into a confrontation with a group of young men on Plympton Street just after midnight.

WBZ-TV’s Paul Burton reports

One of them punched Pilalas in the face, according to investigators, and that’s when Pilalas pulled out a knife from his pocket and began swinging it around.

Goulart was stabbed in the heart. He was rushed to Jordan Hospital where he died a short time later.

Pilalas was arrested. He was arraigned Monday in Wareham District Court.

One of his neighbors told WBZ-TV Pilalas has been troubled since his brother died, but he never expected anything like this.

“For something like that to happen, I can’t figure it out. It doesn’t make sense,” Glen Hammarberg said.

“Something, (there’s got) to be more behind it.”

“How could a 26-year-old guy find the need to pull out a knife and attack a bunch of young kids?  Did you not grow up yet?” Goulart family friend Matthew Bishop told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

Friends of Goulart said the fight started because Pilalas was harassing a group of women and the men stopped to intervene.

Police say the two had never had any contact before this incident.

I think they need to release the full story because those “innocent kids” walking down the street at 12am in the morning on a road with no lights were up to no good which provoked Nick pulling over, and lets talk about the kids in the car that had left a party and had been drinking that tried jumping Nick, 3 on 1…… This kid was stabbed because they jumped a man who happen to defend himself by branishing a knife in attempts to scare off these immature intoxicated boys. No one called the cops until after someone was stabbed, but lets not get the full story out there cause god forbid the truth came out and the victim wasnt so innocent. I feel bad for both families involved in such a stupid altercation that turned in to a deadly one.
