Men Wearing "Scream" Masks Rob NH Jewelry Store

TILTON, N.H. (CBS) - Three masked men took just a couple of minutes to steal more than $200,000 worth of jewelry from a store in Tilton, New Hampshire Friday night.

One of the men was armed with a handgun and all were wearing Halloween masks when they robbed a busy Kay Jewlers.

The man with the gun quickly ordered all the customers, including a 12-year-old girl, to drop to the ground.

WBZ-TV's Paul Burton reports.

"According to the witnesses, the customers on the floor, they described him as the ring leader. He orders all the customers onto the floor," said Chief Bob Cormier of the Tilton, N.H. Police Department.

The two other suspects then began to smash the glass cases and grab the jewelry.

"They said they were very calm. They were very systematic with everything they did. They never really ran, they just walked fast when they left," said Chief Cormier.

Within two minutes, the heist was over and the suspects fled the store. Moments later, frightened customers and staff quickly called 911.

"It shows how violent they are and how determined they are, and I think that if anyone tried to stop them they'd certainly resist," said Chief Cormier.

Two of the suspects were actually wearing masks from the film "Scream."

"Even for a law enforcement officer, it's a little bit scary to watch. And I can imagine for the civilians in the store, even more," said Chief Cormier.

Tilton Police will be comparing notes with their counterparts in Manchester, New Hampshire. A similar robbery took place there last week.
