Fan Accidentally Shoots Self In Gillette Stadium Parking Lot Before Game

FOXBORO (CBS) - A fan accidentally shot himself in the leg with a licensed handgun in the Gillette Stadium parking lot on Sunday.

The shooting happened around 3:15 p.m., about an hour before the Giants-Patriots game. The 50-year-old man was allegedly attempting to empty the chamber of his gun when it accidentally discharged, police said.

He suffered a wound to his leg and was taken to a local hospital. He was later reported to be in stable condition and expected to be released Sunday night.

The man was in his vehicle with his wife at the time of the accident.

No one else was injured.

"Foxborough police conducted the investigation and concluded that it was an accident," Patriots spokesman Stacey James said in a statement.
