Bridgewater State Students Warned About Attempted Abduction

BRIDGEWATER (CBS) - A warning is going out to students at Bridgewater State University. Police say a man tried to sweet talk and kidnap a young woman.

On Monday police say a man grabbed a student walking along east campus drive and said, "Come with me sweetie." She was able to scream and get away.

Officers say the man is in his 50's, has a gray mustache and close-cropped hair. He was last seen driving a green or teal minivan.

WBZ-TV's Diana Perez reports

"In light of this incident we have stepped up patrols we are working with State Police and others to try and apprehend the individual who made this attempt," says BSU President Dana Mohler-Faria.

The school is also making sure everyone knows what happened says freshman Klark Dacunha. "They sent out multiple emails letting us know safety precautions for us to take."

All common sense steps to stay out of harms way, "Definitely don't walk alone. Have someone with them at all times try not to go out late at night," says Dacunha.

Students we spoke to say they're happy with the way the university had dealt with the situation. What they aren't happy about is that it continues to happen. Less than two weeks ago the school says another student was assaulted on campus - in an unrelated incident.

"We've been on the news all the time it's kinda freaking me out. I don't walk by myself and that was in the daylight," explains freshman Erin Donovan.

Aside from stepped up patrols, the school is also raising awareness about its self-defense class geared to female students.
