Belichick, Brady Mum On Edelman Arrest

FOXBORO (CBS) – The arrest of Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was a hot topic at Gillette Stadium Wednesday morning.

At least for the reporters asking the questions.

"I don't have any comment. I think his representatives made their comment; I don't have anything to add to," Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said when asked about it.

Belichick did say he spoke with Edelman, but those "conversations are private between myself and the player like all the others we have."

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, whose locker is next to Edelman's, also had little to say about the situation.

"We let coach Belichick handle that," Brady told reporters.

"He's our friend," he said of Edelman. "We're trying to win a football game. That's what's on our mind."

"There's not much for me to talk about. It's not my situation, it's someone else's," added Brady.

"I have plenty of things I have to worry about over the course of this week. My priorities are to be the best quarterback I can be for this team."

When asked if he was disappointed in his receiver's actions, Belichick stayed mum.

"Right now we're getting ready for the Giants," he said.  "(It's a) big game on Sunday."

He did say the Patriots have a system in place to handle discipline internally, but it is never made public. That will not change any time soon.

As for Edelman seeing the field on Sunday?

"We'll play the best players that we can like we always do. It won't be any different this week than any other week," said Belichick.

Belichick would not comment on if there was a discipline problem in the locker room after Edelman's arrest and tight end Rob Gronkowski posing for pictures with an adult film star during the bye week.

Belchick's availability closed with a reporter asking him if there would be future talks about how the team should conduct themselves away from Gillette.

"Yeah, it's important to all of us," the coach said.

Edelman, who has three receptions this season, was on the practice field for the Patriots Wednesday afternoon.
