Haverhill Students Moved Because School Is Falling Apart

HAVERHILL (CBS) - The Hunking Middle school in Haverhill is falling apart and mold has been discovered in the building.

It's been a crazy first year of middle school for sixth graders at Hunking. The entire class has been moved to another school since theirs is, quite literally, falling apart.

Hunking's problems run deep.

WBZ-TV's Jim Armstrong reports

From cracked foundation columns and floors and a roof in danger of collapse, to long-standing mold and ventilation problems. They are so bad that experts suggest the windows stay open year-round.

Parents say City Hall and school administrators only just started listening after a group of moms came together to form a group called Haverhill Parents Saving our Schools.

Seventh and eighth grade classes are still being held there as engineers try to figure out what is smarter and cheaper; fixing the building, or tearing the whole thing down.
