Rain will be heavy at times through the morning.

Temperatures will begin to drop from northwest to southeast this afternoon.

Watch Melissa's forecast:

Consequently, we will start to notice a changeover between rain and snow late this afternoon and this evening.

The changeover will begin across central and southern Vermont and New Hampshire as well as north central Massachusetts late this afternoon.

Then, the rain/snow line will continue to collapse toward Boston between 9 and 11 p.m.

Many neighborhoods north of the Mass Pike will receive their first snowflakes this season, which could provide a few areas with a coating of snow on the grass.

However, 1-to-3 inches of heavy, wet snow is possible for areas north and west of 128, including Beverly, Fitchburg, Worcester, Nashua, Jaffrey and Keene.

In addition, Freeze Watches and Coastal Flood Advisories have been posted for the areas paralleling the coastline.

Skies will clear out overnight which will set us up for a sunny, yet cool, Friday.

Last Weekend of October:

It is still a close call, but the NAM and GFSx are in agreement that the center of circulation for a low pressure system will stay southeast of the 40/70 benchmark.

This would still create rain/snow showers, which would develop throughout the late-morning/afternoon.

The EURO flip-flopped yesterday and started to come into agreement with the GFSx.

This morning, the EURO still keeps the core of the low offshore, but it is slightly closer to land this morning when comparing it to the NAM and GFSx.

My final decision is to stick with developing rain/snow showers across eastern Mass. on Saturday.

We will have to keep a close eye on the exact track of this system and also the potential for minor splashover and beach erosion.

Otherwise, Sunday will bring us more sunshine and temps moderating a bit as they return to the 50's.

Halloween is still looking dry, but cool for Trick or Treaters! :)
