Teen's Touchdown Puts Game Into Perspective

WORCESTER (CBS) - It was one last touchdown when the game was well-decided, but anyone who saw it will not forget it.

Patrick Myshrall, who scored the touchdown, has down syndrome. But, it doesn't stop him from being a big part of the St. Peter-Marian football team in Worcester.

The 17-year-old wears his No. 12 jersey and guardian uniform with pride.

"My favorite player is Tom Brady and some people say I look kind of better. I don't have all the hair," said Patrick.

WBZ-TV's Paul Burton reports

The team is 5-2 this year, and last Friday, Patrick played in his first game against Doherty High. St. Peter's already had the game won, and in the last minute, both teams gave Patrick the moment he's waiting for.

Patrick scored his first touchdown.

Head coach Tom Henrickson said Patrick's touchdown shows what the game of football is all about.

"Standing ovation both sides. All the Doherty players were clapping all of our kids. Not a dry eye in the stands," said Henrickson.

This is Patrick's first year on the team and he actually signed up without telling his parents. But, he's never missed one practice and he takes part in every drill. What he loves most is being part of the family.

Teammate Eddy Tortora says,  "He's bringing us together as a family and he's showing us life is a gift."
