Rounding Out October

As October nears its end, a 'chill' will be entering New England.

Check: Current Conditions | Weather Map Center | Interactive Radar

Today will be a beauty with gusty WNW winds. Highs will reach the upper 50s and lower 60s.  This high pressure will lose its grip rather quickly though.

Watch Melissa's forecast:

A frontal boundary will head our way and continue to 'hang out' across southern New England on Wednesday and Thursday.

Clouds and showers will sum up Wednesday's forecast as highs struggle to hang near 50F.

Then, the front bisects the region on Thursday.

Areas to the north and west of the city will be cold enough to support a rain/snow mixture to snow throughout the day.

South of the front, which will include the Mass Pike and points south, rain will be heavy at times.

Almost everyone (excluding the Cape/the Islands) will have a chance of seeing some snowflakes Thursday night before the precipitation exits to our east.

Some of the higher elevations north and west of Boston may see some accumulating snow from this system as well.

This weekend is a tough call.

The GFSx has a much weaker system skirting the area with mostly cloudy skies and a few rain/snow showers on Saturday with sunshine returining on Sunday.  (This is the 00z Sunday forecast via the GFSx.)

The EURO shows a full-blown coastal storm with the potential for heavy rain/snow showers along with gusty onshore winds during a high astronomical tide.

This could have effects on the coastal areas including coastal flooding and erosion issues.  (This is the 00z Sunday forecast via the EURO.)

We will be keeping a close eye on this as the weekends nears.

The EURO has a pretty high accuracy rate for long-range forecasting, but for the moment, I am following a blended forecast between the GFSx and EURO and showing the chance for at least some rain/snow showers.

Melissa :)
