BOSTON (CBS) – A fifth-generation ice cream business in Maine is buying what’s left of a family-run ice cream business in Maryland, both operating under the same name.

Gifford’s Ice Cream of Skowhegan, Maine has purchased the name and assets of Gifford’s Ice Cream of Maryland, after that company went bankrupt, and struggled under a parade of owners.

John Gifford tells WBZ he wants to try to slowly rebuild the Gifford Ice Cream name in the mid-Atlantic, while keeping all ice cream production in central Maine.
