State Trooper Helps Save Injured Owl On Mass. Pike

AUBURN (CBS) – A Massachusetts State Trooper helped rescue an injured owl on the Mass. Pike Saturday morning.

Trooper Michael Golenski spotted the owl having a difficult time trying to fly, and stayed with it until Environmental Police arrived.

The owl, believed to be a male barred owl, went into surgery on Sunday and had three screws inserted into its injured wing, according to a spokesman at the Tufts Wildlife Clinic in Grafton.

The owl will initially be held in a small cage, and as it continues to heal, it will be moved to larger and larger cages and eventually a 100-foot flight cage, which is the last step in the recovery process.

The clinic spokesman said the owl has a long road ahead of him.
