All Things Travel: Davey Elected Chairman Of Massport Board Of Directors

BOSTON (CBS) - Massport's newest Board of Directors member Richard Davey has been unanimously elected chairman of the seven member board at their October meeting at Hanscom Field.

Members of the Board are chosen by Governor Deval Patrick.

Davey is also Secretary of Transportation for the Commonwealth. The Secretary, by statue, is an ex-officio member of the board.

Former Secretary of Transportation Jeff Mullan served in a similar capacity before he left the administration to return to the practice of law in the private sector.

Davey joined the board in September and will replace Ranch Kimball, who is leaving after serving seven years in that position.

Board members are not paid for their service to Massport.

Patrick appointed Davey to replace Mullan as Secretary of Transportation in August. He was previously General Manager of the MBTA.

"Customers expect and deserve a seamless experience within our state transportation system, whether they are driving our roads, riding the rails, or flying in and out of airports or taking delivery of cargo at our maritime facilities," said Davey.

Massport continues its search to find a new Executive Director that will work with Davey and the board.

This search is now in its sixth month and a new director will probably not be in place until the new year. Thomas Kinton held that position before retiring in May.

Logan Airport is on a pace to produce record traffic in and out of Boston totaling more than 28 million passengers.

The next major change at Logan will take place on November 2 when Air Tran joins Southwest operations in Terminal E.

The two airlines are merging their operations.
