Dirt From New School Construction Piles Up Behind Dedham Homes
DEDHAM (CBS) - Some Dedham homeowners say the town has turned their paradise into an eyesore.
"I mean it looks like a tornado came through," says Denise Kresker. She and her husband went away last weekend, and returned to find about 20 trees that lined her backyard cut down to stumps.
Town Administrator William Keegan says a crew hired by the town cut the trees to access a huge pile of debris from construction on a new elementary school and athletic field nearby.

"If we had our druthers, we would have been a little more selective in terms of the cutting. Perhaps not as much clear cutting would have been done," he says.
What makes matters even worse, those trees used to block the view of the debris pile for Kresker and some of her neighbors. Now, their backyards look out onto a mountain of dirt.
"Everyone just wants a sanctity to come home to, and we worked really hard to make our yard something that we like to be in, and I don't want to look at it. I don't even want to be in it," says Kresker.
The town administrator says tests show the pile is not contaminated. He says it will eventually be moved, he just doesn't know when. As for the trees, he says the town will replant. "The town has a policy of going back and replacing for a two-to-one ratio. So if we lose one, we'll go back and plant two," says Kresker.
