State Police Investigating Assault Of Woman At Esplanade

BOSTON (CBS) – State Police are looking for a group of men who assaulted a woman on the Esplanade Saturday night.

The 31-year-old Cambridge woman was jogging near the Community Boating area when she was approached and surrounded by a group of men. The men punched the woman in the head twice.

The woman was able to get away and reported the incident to a State Trooper at the Museum Of Science. She declined medical attention.

Police say this does not appear to be connected to past incidents at the Esplanade. In the other assaults, single assailants surprised the victim. That investigation is very active.

Police urge women who use the Esplanade for recreational activities to be aware of their surroundings, to walk or run with a companion if possible, to stay in well-lit areas, and to carry a charged cell phone at all times.

Anyone who feels threatened or uncomfortable, or who sees anything that does not look right, should immediately call 911 on a cell phone to be connected to a State Police dispatcher.
