Reporter: Bulger ‘Paranoid’ After Bin Laden Killed
BOSTON (CBS) – It seems the killing of Osama bin Laden Bin allowed the FBI to focus more on the search for James “Whitey” Bulger and Bulger knew it.
Boston Globe reporter Shelley Murphy, who identified the woman in Iceland who tipped off Bulger’s location to the FBI, told The Early Show on CBS Monday that Bulger started to change his behavior after bin Laden was killed May 1.
Bin Laden had been number one on the bureau’s Most Wanted List.
“Absolutely. I think he was concerned about that. We know from neighbors who used to see him out in the morning and at night walking that he became sort of reclusive right about the time that Osama bin Laden was killed,” Murphy said.
“In fact, Whitey used to pick up the free Santa Monica paper and deliver it to a couple of the neighbors in his building and he would always warn them ‘Hey watch for the weekly crime blotter on Fridays’ and he stopped doing that right around the time of Osama’s death. So we think he was a little bit paranoid.”
