Bricks Fall From Chinatown Building, 1 Hurt

BOSTON (CBS) - Several bricks and pieces of concrete fell off an eight-story garage at 40 Beach Street in Boston's Chinatown on Saturday.

Emergency crews evacuated the building and closed off area streets shortly after 4 p.m.

Inspectors came in to make sure the building was still safe.

"I looked at the ledges with the binoculars and there was a lot of mortar dust that's been deteriorating over the years and I think a lot of the bricks up there are loose right now, so we're really concerned about the top part of the building coming back down on the street," said Dep. Chief Steve Dunbar of the Boston Fire Department.
