BOSTON (CBS) – A lot has been made over the T-shirt former Red Sox manager Terry Francona was wearing during his exclusive TV interview with WBZ-TV’s Dan Roche on Wednesday.

The shirt has a picture of Popeye and his famous phrase “Well Blow Me Down” on the front.  Part of it was obscured during the interview because Francona had crossed his arms.

We’ve posted a photo of the shirt here to clear up any confusion about the words on the shirt.

98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher and RichDeadspin, and Boston Dirt Dogs all posted their own takes on it Thursday, claiming it was a shot at Red Sox management.

Terry Francona does wonders for 8 years, and all people can do is condemn him for his last month/last season. If your guys aren’t playing good….lays squarely on THEIR shoulders.

    1. shades says:

his nickname is popeye doerks, lighten up

  2. brudawg1 says:

Terry Francona is a class act, always has been, always will be. Even with the mistreatment he got from the Sox (mis)management, he never slammed them, instead placed the blame squarely on his own shoulders. We will miss you Terry. Thanks for the great 8 years & the 2 Championships.

Seriously? This sums up why Terry Francona is secretly breathing a sigh of relief about leaving the Boston scene. Why must everything have a twist or a conspiracy therory? Tito was a master of navigating his way through the twists and turns of Boston media…but it’s time to let him be done. He is the best Sox manager and will be sorely missed. I can’t wait for you to critique the incoming managers footwear, collars or hairstyle…give me a break.

  4. Mike from Needham says:

I agree with brudawg1: it’s been eight great years (less a month or two). Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Tito did not get the players to play FOR EACH OTHER this year. They won on talent, but didn’t care enough about each other.

  5. beaches says:

Crossing his arms you see what he’s really saying to the press, am I the only one seeing this????? It’s pretty funny. The Sox will never have a better guy than Francona.

  6. rsn in ny says:

analysis paralysis. slow news day my guess. shame on those in the front office, and those on the bench who failed to “cowboy up” this year. terry was scapegoated (even tho he says it was his decision). coulda, shoulda, woulda. here’s the final words on the shirt “yadda, yadda, yadda.” thanks for all you did terry, many will miss you, me for one. the best to you & your family.

  7. Regina says:

Tito always crosses his arms when he’s uncomfortable (mostly talking to the media), nothing new there.

I would imagine someone gave him the shirt as a joke because he kinda looks like Popeye, no offense Tito. In a good way.. Maybe Pedey gave it to him.

Tito’s going to do something like that after the way he’s conducted himself during this whole situation? I don’t think so.
