Possible Move Of NH Primary Date Part Of A Game Of "Checkers"

BOSTON (CBS) - There are rumblings of a presidential primary in New Hampshire being scheduled as early as December. How would that affect the political landscape?

With Florida pushing up it's primary to January 31st, Boston University Communications Professor Tobe Berkovitz says that has caused a game a "checkers," as each state tries to jump ahead of the other.

A possible December New Hampshire primary could cause havoc as the candidates get their message out.

"These are federal candidates running for President. There are certain federal laws that grant them a certain amount of access onto radio and television, and this is gonna be a real mess for the broadcasters," said Berkovitz.

Berkovitz said it also makes it tougher for retailers to get on the air during the holiday season, and can drive ad prices up.
