4 Westford Academy Students Treated For MRSA

WESTFORD  (CBS/AP) -- Bathrooms, locker rooms and other parts of Westford's high school are being disinfected twice as often as normal after four students came down with drug-resistant staph infections.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens reports

Superintendent of Schools Everett Olsen sent an email to all parents on Wednesday informing them of the measures, and referring them to fact sheets with advice on how to avoid infections.

He told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Thursday that the four students infected attend Westford Academy, but he informed all parents because many families have children at more than one school.

He did not release their names or comment on conditions other than to say the infections are not life-threatening.

MRSA, or methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, is a form of bacteria resistant to an array of antibiotics.
