BOSTON (CBS) – After being the hero of Tuesday night’s 8-7 win in Baltimore, Red Sox rookie Ryan Lavarnway will get another crack at fame Wednesday night.
Lavarnway hit the first two home runs of his career, and made a couple of key plays behind the plate in the late innings. With both Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Jason Varitek dinged up, the rookie will be behind the plate for Jon Lester and bat fifth in the Red Sox regular season finale.

Called up in mid-August and then again in early September, Lavarnway is batting .265 (9-for-34) with two home runs and eight RBI.
Boston enters the game in a tie with the Tampa Bay Rays for the AL Wild Card. If need be, the two teams will play a one-game playoff in St. Petersberg on Thursday.
