Southwick Man Dies Trying To Save Child In Lake

SOUTHWICK (AP) -- Authorities say a man who drowned while trying to save a girl in a western Massachusetts lake was a 44-year-old Chicopee resident.

Southwick police say Dongsoo Kim jumped into Congamond Lake in Southwick around noon Saturday to rescue an 8-year-old girl who had fallen off their boat when he made a turn in the lake.

Nearby boaters rescued the girl, but police say Kim was not seen again after he dove under the water. His body was recovered Saturday night.

The Republican of Springfield reports police were uncertain if the 8-year-old was related to Kim, but earlier reports said she was his daughter. The case remained under investigation Sunday.

Kim's death was the third drowning since June at Congamond Lake, which spans in Southwick and Suffield, Conn.
