Shirley’s Leonard Gionet was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday.
SHIRLEY (CBS) – The family of a local airman killed during World War II waited decades.
Leonard Gionet was finally laid to rest on Wednesday.
Gionet was one of nine airmen shot down over Papua New Guinea in 1943. All nine were buried at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
The army recovered their remains in 1949, but they were just recently identified using DNA.
