Patriots Blog: Nothing Like Watching A Big Man Make A Pick

FOXBORO (CBS) - There is nothing like watching a big man get an interception. It's brings a child like quality to a serious game.

When Vince Wilfork got his first interception for the Patriots on Sunday against the Chargers, he had the end zone in his sights. All 325-pounds of him.

That would have been astounding, and the Gillette Stadium crowd would have errupted.

"Yeah, I did. Any time you get your hands on the ball you think about scoring as a defensive player," said Wilfork, who was actually tripped up by teammate Devin McCourty on the play. McCourty was also flagged for hitting San Diego running back Mike Tolbert from behind as the he tried to reach out for Wilfork.

Big Vince said afterwards he was in the right place at the right time.

"When I saw the running back take off, I was thinking (it would be a) screen (pass) from the look the guard was giving. I got out there and made the play. When you take a chance like that you better make the play," said Wilfork.

"Now I can talk smack to them," Vince added.

Wilfork tipped the pass to himself, and then rumbled 36 yards to the San Diego 29 yard line. It set up a Patriots field goal that gave them a 20-7 lead at the half.

It was the 14th interception by a defensive lineman in team history and the first since Richard Seymour picked one off against Houston on Dec. 17, 2006.
