WHITMAN (CBS) – A 13-year-old Bridgewater boy was arrested for attempting to sell unique weapons at a park in Whitman on Tuesday.

“In a search of his backpack, they found a double-edged knife and a Chinese throwing star, and they were able to locate a stun gun on the hill in the park,” said Whitman Police Chief Christine May-Stafford.

Chief May-Stafford said it’s not clear the boy understands the seriousness of what he did, but she said he did know something was wrong.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Karen Twomey reports.

“He didn’t say much to the officers, but he denied having anything until they located the weapons on him,” said May-Stafford.

The police chief said she was “disturbed” the boy was just 13.

“I mean, this is a very unusual incidentfor this town,” said Stafford. “We’re just fortunate we were able to get these weapons out of his hands.”

The boy was arrested and has been summonsed to court.
