Hingham Reservoir Shut Down After Report Of Suspicious Activity

HINGHAM (CBS) – Police in Hingham are investigating a report that someone placed something into the Accord Pond Reservoir.

The report prompted the Aquarion Water Company to shut down the water supply from that source. The report came from a resident who lives close to the reservoir.

Police say they found papers near the water that were not written in English, and contacted the FBI and State Police.

"We acted immediately upon receiving the alert," said Harry Hibbard, Aquarion's Vice President of Operations in Massachusetts. "We shut down the water supply and we began taking samples for analysis."

The results of those samples have not been released yet. Hibbard says the safety and purity of the water is not an issue, and is still safe to drink.

Accord Pond is a reservoir that serves the towns of Hingham, Hull and parts of Cohasset.

The company says it will use water from their other resources to meet demands.
