Farmer's Almanac Predicts Rough Winter For Southern New England

BOSTON (CBS) - The 2012 edition of the Old Farmer's Almanac lays out its predictions for the New England winter.

Areas of northern New England should expect colder-than-normal temperatures but seasonal rates of snowfall.

What about Boston and other parts of southern New England?

"Areas like the Atlantic Corridor like Boston and Hartford - near-normal temperatures, above-normal snowfall," Sarah Perault, the senior associate editor of the Old Farmer's Almanac, told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

The Old Farmer's Almanac has been using a formula that dates back to 1792, based on solar science, meteorology and climatology, and now technology to forecast the winter.

"We traditionally have an 80-percent accuracy rate, but for last winter, we were 90.6 percent accurate in precipitation and temperature, so we're really patting ourselves on the back this year," said Perault.
