WBZ And Millions Of Pennies

In the early 80s, Dave Maynard created a monumental fundraiser which would become known as the WBZ Children's Hospital Radiothon and Telethon.  In Dave Maynard's more than three decades with WBZ,  he participated in a number of unique fundraisers, including camping out on a 32-foot raft on the Charles River until he raised $6,000 needed to send needy inner city kids to summer camp. In 1988, he began a penny drive to raise a million pennies for Children's Hospital.  For two months, he asked listeners to donate pennies, and they did-- children, businesspeople,corporations, everyone collected them. When it was all done, Dave had exceeded his goal which raised, $13,955.97,.....all in pennies.
