Mental Health Patient Indicted Over Death At Bourne Facility
BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) -- A mental health patient has been indicted for manslaughter, months after he had an altercation at a Cape Cod facility with a worker who later died.
Nicholas Davenport of Eastham was a patient at the Cape Cod & Islands Community Mental Health Center in Bourne when staff member Jason Lew was allegedly forced to restrain him on March 24.
During the altercation, the 60-year-old Lew was allegedly struck and fell. About two weeks later, Lew suffered what would be a fatal heart attack.
Investigators initially said Lew's heart attack couldn't be tied to the altercation.
But the Cape Cod Times reports that on Friday a grand jury indicted Davenport on charges including manslaughter.
The 20-year-old Davenport is being held at Taunton State Hospital. He faces arraignment in the coming weeks.
