Would it be possible to get updates regarding travel in Northern New Hampshire. We were wondering if the Kancamagus Highway has reopened or if they have a target date in mind? We are making plans for our annual fall pilgrimage which wouldn’t be the same without a ride across the Kanc. Thanks in advance! – Karen, Somerville

With the fall tourism season about to begin in New England, the damage done to some areas by Tropical Storm Irene is an additional problem.

Unfortunately, as of today about 12 miles of the Kancamagus Highway remains closed.  That scenic road in New Hampshire is one of the best placs to see fall colors, so it’s crucial for the NH economy to get it open.

I checked with the NH Governor’s office and learned that the goal is to have the highway open by Sept. 15th.  Time will tell because the road was hit hard by the storm.
