Hit And Run Victim Doesn't Know Why Suspect Fled Police

BOSTON (CBS) – A police chase stretching from Boston to the South Shore ended with gunfire Wednesday.

A man was shot and killed by police after ramming a state police cruiser in Rockland.

This all started after police say the driver ran down a woman in Boston.

WBZ spoke with the hit and run victim, 25-year-old Cassandra Combs, who says she's a friend of Mark McMullen, a man she describes as having a drug habit.

WBZ-TV's Beth Germano reports

He's often seen hanging around the area of Blue Hill Avenue in Roxbury where she was struck today. She says he's not capable of the violence that unfolded today, but it started when she got into his car, to talk to him.

At that point she says police who were patrolling the area, known for drug activity, started to approach McMullen, and she says he took off with Combs still inside. She describes what happened next.

"I jump out of the car, I'm like stop the car! Stop the car!," He puts the car in reverse, and swipes me with the door."

She said he then took off down the road, leading police on the chase.

"I don't even know why he did that," she says.
