Patriots Blog: Waters Joins Pats; Meriweather, Tate Find New Homes
BOSTON (CBS) - A day after the Patriots made their roster cuts, the team made a corresponding move, signing veteran right guard Brian Waters. A couple former Pats also found new homes.
PATS SIGN WATERS
The Pats have signed perennial Pro Bowl guard Brian Waters. Waters played in all 16 regular season games for the Kansas City Chiefs last season.
By bringing Waters on, the Pats have to make a roster move soon. Maybe they will move rookie linebacker Jeff Tarpinian to the injured reserve, or maybe they will try and move Darius Butler.
MERIWEATHER, TATE, SMITH FIND NEW HOMES
With the Pats cutting players and some of them good enough to land on other teams, we have a list of ex-Patriots and their landing spots so far.
Brandon Meriweather is the big one. The Pats let go the 2-time Pro Bowler but it did not take him long to find a home. Meriweather has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears. The Patriots drafted him in the first round in 2007, and he finished his New England career with 224 tackles and 12 interceptions in 64 career games. He started for the Pats 40 times.
Brandon Tate was not sitting on the pine too long. The Patriots No. 3 receiver from a year ago and kick returner has landed a job with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Lee Smith has his football dreams alive. The Pats 5th round pick from this season, will actually get a chance to see the Patriots twice this year. He was picked up by the Buffalo Bills.
