Tropical Storm Irene Hurls Piles Of Rocks, Sand Onto Westport Road

WESTPORT (CBS) - Beach Road in Westport sure lived up to its name on Sunday.

As Tropical Storm Irene pushed through New York and New England Sunday morning, several Massachusetts communities, including at Horseneck Beach in Westport, experienced heavy rain and strong wind.

WBZ-TV's Jim Smith reports.

Beach Road, which runs along the beach, was especially hard-hit, as piles of rocks and sand were left scattered all over the road by the storm, making it impassable.

Even a large piece of a flight of stairs made its way across the road, showing that even though the once-powerful Hurricane Irene lost strength, it still packed a punch.
