The Bear Essentials: Everything Is OK, Marchand Will Get Signed

BOSTON (CBS) - Everybody calm down. Everything's ok. Brad Marchand will get signed to the Boston Bruins.

I admit, at first it sounds a bit strange. Two months after winning the Stanley Cup and one of the team's leading goal scorers isn't under contract? Yeah, it's weird. But the more I think of it, the less concerned I am.

Here's why: it's the Boston Bruins.

What more is there to say? It's the team that hands out contracts like they're running out of style. From Tim Thomas to Patrice Bergeron to Andrew Ference, players have been getting paid.

Now that they've won the Stanley Cup, why would their approach change? Would they really revert back to the old cheap Bruins of the past? The answer is no. There's no reason for them to do so. Their fan base is back. They're in the championship club. Things are good.

The Bruins' management has changed. Their philosophy has changed. Signing Brad Marchand is part of that philosophy.

By the time season starts, "the little rat" should have his money and be back to annoying players and scoring goals.
