The home owner, Krittiya Chotising, called 911 and three young men who lived next door for help.

The men rushed inside to rescue a 10-year-old boy who was unconscious on the second floor.

As they broke down the door to the apartment, Emergency Medical Technician Edmund Burke arrived. He had been on his way to work when he heard the call on his radio.

All four men pulled the boy out and Burke began CPR on the child, who was in respiratory distress.

The boy was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation in a hyperbaric oxygen unit.  He is expected to recover.

The cause of the fire is still not known, but investigators say it is not suspicious.

Damage is estimated at $50,000.
