Gresh And Zo: Would Theo Epstein Bolt For The Cubs?

It was reported last night that Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein might get a look from the Chicago Cubs for their next GM spot, and Chicago may even offer Epstein the President label.

Would Epstein leaving the Sox really hurt this team? He has drafted very well since becoming GM in November of 2002, but there have been numerous questionable big-dollar free-agent signings since he took over (see: JD Drew, John Lackey).

Yes, Theo was a big part of Boston's two World Series championships. After taking David Ortiz off the scrap heap in 2003, Epstein went out and got Curt Schilling, signed closer Keith Foulke, and pulled the trigger on the Nomar trade in 2004. In 2007, home-grown players like Dustin Pedroia, Jonathan Papelbon and Jacoby Ellsbury helped Boston win their second championship in just four years.

But is the team successful because of the money they spend or the job Epstein has done? Or is it both?

Gresh and Zo discuss the possibility of the move and if it's worth being concerned about the possible departure...

Your turn to chime in. What is your take on Red Sox GM Theo Epstein? How much, if at all, would it hurt the team if Theo skipped town?
