Middleboro Family Urges Public To Take Mosquito Warnings Seriously

MIDDLEBORO (CBS) - As state health officials put out a new warning about mosquitoes infected with Eastern Equine Encephalitis, one local couple is urging the public to take the news seriously.

"A mosquito? My husband's 6-foot-1," says Maureen Fuller.

Her husband Jeffrey got Triple E from a mosquito last August.

"It's very rare that it happens, but when it does happen, there's nothing about your life that is ever the same, nothing."

One year later, he's still recovering at the Neuro-rehab Center of Middleboro.

WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reports

He woke up from a two-month-long coma last fall, and is only now learning to walk again.

Fuller got the bite even after mosquito control crews had sprayed from trucks in their hometown of Middleboro.

His wife says the treatment helps, but people still need to be on guard and continue to spray their bodies.

This week, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported infected mosquitoes were discovered in Bridgewater, West Bridgewater, Carver, Middleboro, Rockland, and Freetown.

Fuller's friends and family have organized a charity golf tournament to raise money for his staggering medical bills.

It's scheduled for September 24th at the Little Harbor Country Club in Wareham.
