Patriots Practice Notes: Haynesworth In Pads; Woodhead Returns

FOXBORO (CBS) – The New England Patriots got a few players back at practice on Tuesday, but at the same time, had a few notables missing.

Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth returned to the practice field in full pads, just one day after a court date in Washington D.C. where he pleaded no contest to a charge of simple assault.

It was the first time Haynesworth has been in pads and participated in practice since August 4. There is a chance he could suit up for the Patriots on Saturday night when they take on the Detroit Lions in the team's third preseason game.

"It's always good getting out on the practice field and the walk-through with guys," linebacker Jerod Mayo said of Haynesworth before practice. "I'm sure when Albert gets out there he'll catch up fast."

"It's a definite plus to have a lot of guys that are playmakers and are good at what they do," newcomer Shaun Ellis said. "We just have to gel together. We'll see what happens."

Linebacker Gary Guyton also returned to practice after missing Monday. Running back Danny Woodhead also returned to the field for the media portion of practice. Woodhead suffered a head injury in New England's preseason win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after taking a vicious hit during a kick return.

Some notables missing from Tuesday's practice include linebacker Brandon Spikes, rookie offensive lineman Nate Solder, rookie running backs Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley, and cornerback Leigh Bodden.
