Lawrence 'Chaos': 3 Stabbed, Firefighter Bitten In Drunken Crowds

LAWRENCE (AP) -- Three people were stabbed, a firefighter was bitten and a woman was slashed with a razor when drunken crowds lingered outside several Lawrence clubs at closing time over the weekend.

Police Chief John Romero called the scene early Sunday morning "complete chaos."

Outnumbered Lawrence police needed assistance from state troopers and officers from neighboring Methuen to control the unruly crowd estimated to number about 800.

In addition, the front window of one club was shattered during the violence.

Police say one woman was held on the ground by several other women and her forehead and temple were slashed with a razor, probably causing permanent disfigurement.

Three people were arrested for disorderly conduct.

Romero tells The Eagle-Tribune that alcohol is to blame.
