Donations Pour In After Theft Of Medallions From Veterans' Graves

ABINGTON (CBS) - The theft of medallions from the graves of veterans outraged the community of Abington.

Officials in say they're overwhelmed by the outpouring of support they have received.

Local vets and town leaders re-dedicated several graves Monday.

Last month, someone stole or damaged 18-markers at Mount Vernon cemetery.

Police think the bronze and copper medallions were stolen and sold for scrap.

As the news spread, offers to help poured in.

"It was a sad thing, but it showed that the American people are out there," says Abington Veterans Service Director Joseph Colantoni. "We got donations from people in California, Tennessee, Staten Island, people from all over the country wanted to give us donations."

Police are still looking for whoever stole the medallions.
