BOSTON (CBS) – At Sweet Basil in Needham, the portions of fresh pasta and seafood are big, and the value is even bigger, because the restaurant is BYOB.

The Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier in Kittery, Maine is BYOE, or bring your own everything! Customers are encouraged to bring their favorite bottle, along with tablecloths, crystal, and any food not offered on the menu.

Café Rossetti’s in Winthrop is a cozy Italian restaurant offering affordable plates of pork chops, chicken parm, and even shrimp scampi pizza. So, being able to bring your own wine, is just an added bonus.

You won’t find a lot of BYOB spots in the city of Boston, because it’s illegal for restaurants to have any alcohol without a license.

It is not illegal if done properly. A check with the ABCC website says they don’t regulate it, it’s strictly a local option. There are strict regulations that must be followed. Winthrop currently licenses Rosetti’s, Alia, D’Parma, and Hi Tide.

The Saigon restaurant on Exchange St. in Millis has excellent Vietnamese food and will provide setups for your own alcohol. Prices are reasonable – even inexpensive. Service may be a little slow, but it’s worth the wait.
