DiMasi's Law License To Be Suspended After Sentencing

BOSTON (AP) -- A Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court justice has delayed the suspension of former House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi's law license until after his sentencing on federal corruption charges.

The state Bar Council had asked the court for the immediate temporary suspension of DiMasi's law license after he was found guilty in June of using his clout as speaker to steer two lucrative state contracts to a software firm in exchange for payments.

In her ruling Justice Margot Botsford said that since DiMasi is scheduled to be sentenced in less than a month and since he still has appeals pending, the order to suspend his license can wait until Sept. 9, the day after his sentencing.

Botsford said DiMasi must tell any potential clients that his license will be temporarily suspended at that time.
