2 Drivers Seriously Hurt In I-495 Crash In Franklin

FRANKLIN (CBS) – Two drivers were seriously hurt in a crash that shut down part of Route 495 early Wednesday morning.

It happened on the northbound side in Franklin around 2:30 a.m.

State Police say 24-year-old Brian Fuller of Milford hit a guardrail with his 2002 Ford Taurus and then broke down on the highway with his lights off.

Moments later, police say 36-year-old David Cooney of Seekonk came down the middle lane in his 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee and slammed into the Taurus.

The force of the collision caused the Cherokee to flip over the Taurus and land on its roof between the high-speed lane and the center median.

Both drivers were trapped. Fuller and Cooney were rescued and rushed to separate hospitals with serious injuries.

Most of 495 north in the area was closed for about four hours after the collision.
