Deadline Nears For Mass. Health Care Enrollment

BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts residents who buy private health care plans through the Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector have until Monday to participate in an open enrollment period.

Connector Executive Director Glen Shor said the enrollment period will be the only chance this year for many Massachusetts residents to obtain insurance through the connector authority.

A recent state law restricts when many individuals and families buying health insurance outside of an employer's plan or a government-subsidized program can purchase or change plans.

The next open enrollment period for customers to purchase or switch plans will not occur until July 2012.

Major carriers with plans offered through the Health Connector include Blue Cross Blue Shield, CeltiCare, Fallon Community Health Plan, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Health New England, Neighborhood Health Plan and Tufts Health Plan.
